Vicus Leodicus war ein römischer Maasübergang an der Straße von Trier nach Tongeren. Im seinem Todesjahr 705 wurde der Heilige Lambert, Bischof von Tongeren-Maastricht, hier in einer Kapelle beigesetzt. Ein Bistum, das zuvor in Tongeren bestand, dann in Maastricht (obj-131), wurde 722 nach Lüttich verlegt. Mit der Erhebung zum Bistum wurde südlich des Doms (obj-132) eine Taufkirche erbaut, wohl kurz nach 722. Beim Neubau des Doms unter Bischof Notker entstand eine neue Taufkirche nach 978, die beim Stadtbrand 1185 zerstört wurde.

Vicus Leodicus était un passage romain de la Meuse sur la route de Trèves à Tongres. En 705, l'année de sa mort, Saint Lambert, évêque de Tongres-Maastricht, fut enterré ici dans une chapelle. Un évêché qui existait auparavant à Tongres, puis à Maastricht (obj-131), est transféré à Liège en 722. Avec l'élévation au rang d'évêché, un baptistère fut construit au sud de la cathédrale (obj-132), probablement peu après 722. Lorsque la cathédrale fut reconstruite sous l'évêque Notker, un nouveau baptistère fut construit après 978, qui fut détruit dans l'incendie de la ville en 1185.
